As for combustion products that depends if we're talking 90% sealed combustion or not. Also your blower door safty switch has been disabled, probably half of them in the country are. And it sounds like your return air is seriously undersized.

WARM AIR FURNACE BLOWER QUESTION

Hello all--I was changing the air filter on my Warm air FURNACE=While the blower cover was off the the burner came on-and a few minutes later the blower come on--The amount of heat that was blowing from the vents in the house was unbelievable-the house heated quick! I have a ranch home with 7 rooms and a finished basement where the burner is..
My question is--Why couldnt i keep that blower cover off and replace it with a air filter? The volume of air flow was insane--and the heat was as hot as if the cover was on.. Thanks for any answers.. Happy Holidays!!! MARK

In no way should the furnace door be left off as the products of combustion could be pulled back into the blower creating a very unsafe condition. check your duct sizing and was the filter clean?

sounds like you are seriously lacking return air. What size furnace(btu's), and what size ductwork(supply and return)?
