water ruined combustion chamber?

I would say that a small amount of water wouldn't be able to get into that boiler from the top. Maybe they were having a slow day.

water ruined combustion chamber?
Last season I had a water leak that leaked onto the hotwater boiler (weil-Mcclain gold series) to one of my tenants apartments. We allow the tenants to pick their oil dea;er and we pay them to service the boiler including a repair service contract.
We got a bill from them from a service call that in which they said they had to rebuild the combustion chamber due from that leak causing it to fail.
I have some doubts. I saw this leak o the day it happened and it was pretty small. I can understand it might have damaged some controls if anything but the combustion chamber? seems like it would take a lot of water from the top to do this. (My old heating guy recently retired said the same thing," how did the water get into the combustion chamber"?)BTW it DIDN'T go down the inside of the stack.
I know a tradesman from the area (we are out of state and you can't believe the prices I have been quote for some things recently for 3K to remove a 8" tree that can be dropped without hitting and structure ) and he didn't have a good opinion of this company and said he felt they did a lot of unnecessary work esp if they think you can't or are not knowledgeable in what they work with.
So is it likely that my fairly new combustion chamber had to be rebuilt from a one storm roof leak on the top of the unit?0 -
Oh yes, they said the repair contract didn't cover this damage because of the fact a water leak caused it.0 -
the only times a chamber gets water damaged bad enough for replacement is when it has been submerged --or if it was leaking water from the boiler itself --both cases the boiler needs to be replaced tell the co. to go find work somewhere else0
