White Rodgers still makes the 1361-104 2-wire zone valve. Cv is 42.2.

    zone valves on storage tank

What is the cons about using a zone valve on a storage tank? I am a storage tank to my system and have to existing zones already. The storage tank will be on proirity and the existing pump is large enough for the load. So what are the cons to it?

    every

second counts on DHW recovery. Zone valves, especially Taco's heat style create lag while waiting for the end switch to make. Also, some ZV's Cv means flow restriction.

Thirdly, 1 1/4 Zv's are hard to come by- some tanks need that size or bigger for correct flow.

Fourthly, what pump curve may be good for heat loops, probably is not right for DHW flow rates.

It's done anyway, and some end users get away w/ it b/c of lower DHW demands/variables, but it's not something I would do. I advocate a dedicated, properly sized pump for the DHW.

I have twined honeywell 1" zone valves for 119 superstor tank, the larger gpm zone valve that is. Parallel of course.

    Depends on the load

and how many GPM's you are moving.

Most ZV, at least Caleffi :) have a 7.5 Cv up to 1-1/4". They easily allow 75,000 at a 20 delta t.

I've used 1" 3 way zone valves on a bunch of Knight 80,000 boilers, they work great. Use a 120V operator and power the zone valve right from the mod-con DHW priority position. Simple one pump operation, easy to pipe also.

White Roger had that full port 1316 ZV for years. You could drive a (small) truck through that valve.
