I hate this feeling

The lowest qualified bidder.

I do not mean to take away anything from the successful bidder, but even if you did not get the job, your honest and accurate number is a win just the same.

One can only hope that your stewardship will continue and just maybe the low bidder will exceed expectations.

But I feel for you.

The feeling in your gut right before bid results! Called the number into my secretary 20 minutes ago. They are reading the results to her right now.

    It is

    the worst ... I agree .... Did I get the job ?? How much higher was I ?? .....

But the worse is ... after feeling elated that you got the job ..... WHAT DID I MISS ????

This is not for the faint hearted.

    So very true Scott.

We didn't get the job but we lost it with a very honest and accurate number. The guy who got it came in 30% lower than everyone else. We came in smack dab in the middle of the pack.

I try not to get emotionally involved but I have been nursing these boilers for 6 years now and felt a little bit of entitlement to the job, but it was public works and had to go to low bid.

Sad thing is I know the job is going to go bad and I am going to have to nurse the new boilers along too.

    Taking it personally....

After switch sides of the counter from wholesale to contracting (almost 4 yrs now), this is still the hardest aspect to stomach. It is hard not to take it personally because my business is personal to me.

Always a gut punch. Hang in there Josh.

    Regards,

    PR

I'm over it.. It's nothing that we couldn't get over by getting a couple of growlers at the brewery across the street ;)

Get out of the Bidding Game

We no longer submit bids. We will give a price, but not a competitive bid. If a customer takes our price and compares it to another, well, we can't control that. We tell them up front that we will never be the cheapest and most likely be the highest. There are plenty of people out there that want the best, you just have to be the best.
