Is that 7.5 either open or closed? One I was looking at was great Cv open but not much closed.

    Solar Diverter Valve

My Drainback Solar System calls for a 3-way motorized valve to divert the solar loop to Domestic Hot Water (from Radiant Floor) when the radiant loop is satisfied. I have the Caleffi 1" 3-port motorized valve, but I noticed that the orifice on the inner part of the valve is only about 1/2" in diameter. I'm concerned about what this will do to the flow through the Solar Loop.

I'll be using Taco 0011 circulator, which, according to the Taco specs, will deliver just under 20 gpm at 14 ft. of head. Do I need a full port valve, or is there no real concern?

Thanks to all contributors to this forum.

    how many GPM

are you trying to flow thru it? That valve, if it is a 3 way zone valve, has a 7.5 Cv, which means it will flow 7.5 gpm with a 1 psi pressure drop. That should handle 8 panels without a problem.

    HR,

    Thanks for the reply.

According to my Heat Exchanger specs, my GPM should be greater than 7.3.

I think I understand Cv a little better than before. So, if a Cv of 7.5 means 7.5 gpm with a 1 psi drop, does that simply mean that there would be a greater pressure drop with more gallons per minute passing through?

    Sincerely,

    Mart
