in the Trade show was a company that is making a ductless Heat pump/AC that runs directly on Solar photo voltaic panels. The inverter ductless systems already run on DC current, why not take out the inverter and run them directly off the panels. I would think that in my house I could install one upstairs to cool off the top of the house when the sun is shining the most to supplement the whole house A/C with energy free cooling. That appeals to my thrifty nature. WW

I've just returned
from a 2 day conference on Solar for MD, VA and DC. The MDV-MEIA is the official title of the Association. What a grand time I had attending the trade show and taking workshops to fill my head. There's some amazing stuff taking place. My old college, "Frostburg State University" up in the panhandle of MD even has an alternative energy curriculum now. They are planning to build a training center/green dwelling that's totally off grid. I would love to send my 18 year old son to take classes and participate, (although I'd miss his strong back. Ha!) My last class today was about heating with solar thermal. The company that puyt on the class, believes strongly in Apricus Evac tubes. I must admit I was being swayed until they finally got around to heat dumps, power outages precautions and glycol testing. I really would love the slightly higher capacity of an evac tube in cold weather but also want the trouble free nature of a properly installed drainback. I know I'm never satisfied. WW

Nice
there is some interesting solar products showing up these days. I spotted some solar hot air panels with a PV powered fans for ag use. They use them in barns for livestock" point of use heat"
Who was your instructor? Did they have a good turnout at the class and trade show?

The instructor
of the solar thermal heating workshop was a nice fellow by the name of John Williams from "Solar Panels Plus" from Chesapeake, VA. He had some pictures from China where he went to the Apricus Evac Tube factory. My favorite was a picture of a donkey drawn cart filled with evac tubes leaving the factory. Hopefully they have a little more shipping transportation than that.
