Copper or black pipe for rooftop solar?

copper, not that I have nearly as much experience as others in this forum. But given issues of glycol, the fewer mechanical joints the better.

The "exposed to weather" issues may cancel out because the lines are covered, but if you had a void in the insulation, how would you know that you had an external rusting problem? Or leaks at the screwed joints for that matter?

For those reasons, I would go soldered copper, or brazed if I was so skilled.

Now, copper is still more than iron but both metals have come down a good bit recently. As much as a third that I have seen. And, you are going to do any install once.

My $0.02
