pumping the bejeebees out of it and got the heat to fairly stable. The idea of reversing is interesting, don't know which is better but this worked to get a customer out of jam. Told customer no promises before hand although. Tim

    1000' pex

well it happened again. I went over to a new builder/client this evening. Three years ago he had licensed plumber/friend run radiant tubing into a new slab area in his own house. He purchased and ran a 1000' roll of 1/2" pex from the boiler and back into a 10' by 44' area on slab. He is running a 0012 taco pump and of course it takes forever to heat up and the end of the loop never heats. Oh, and the thermostat is in the wrong place too. He showed me pictures of what was run. Nice and neat and about 8-9" on center over an insulated slab.

I guess I have choices....#1 is run as fast as I can. Any brainstorms guys?? I have some additional solutions but I don't know if it is worth it.

Has anyone come across this with any success?

    Thanks,

    Brian

  • Calculate the total head and select 2 circs doubled up with 2 low flow high head circs, 1 one supply 1 at return wired together.

Add supplemental heat from there if necessary

Hot Rod had a somewhat solution to this. Some sort of 4-way valve if I recall that reversed the flow periodically.

Either that or get out a jackhammer.

    Paxton has the parts

to assemble the reverser I used. Here is the link to the how and whys.

I'd still pump it up, maybe a 26-99 or so, even with the reverser.

8" on center 120" wide at 44' is approx 660 Ln/ft not 1000' mentioned. if the area is 440 sq/ft approx 25 btu per ft = 11,000 btuh load, or 1.1 gpm at 20 degree delta T. .04079 friction loss per ft X 660'= 27 ft hd. Design is 1.1 gpm @ 27 ft. The taco 009 would work. Anyone have any comments on my way of thinking???

    1000 ft loops

I had a guy put 2 1000 ft loops, a 150 and a 35 on a four loop manifold. Used a 009 and choked the bejeebers out of the short loops; and surprisingly, it heats the slab. Pretty much constant circ with OD reset.
