Hot water radiators

I was working on a house where they have a two pipe two zone hot water heating system. The main supply and return ran through the ceiling on the first floor. The radiators on the second floor heated up very quick and all radiators got hot. The first floor radiators where the water had to go down took longer to heat up and not all the radiators got hot. I saw in one of Dan's books in a monoflo system install and the main was above the radiators you have to install two monoflo tees per radiator. Do you have to install monoflo tees on the supply main in a two pipe hot water system when you have the main above the radiators? The zone valve for the 1st floor was replaced and manually opened when we were working on it. Thank you in advance for any help.

If converted gravity, main floor rads could have restrictor discs in them that need to be removed. Are you sure this is a monoflow system? You said 2-pipe.

The system is definitely 2 pipe they used to have cast iron radiators and then changed over to copper baseboard.

If house is one big zone off one pump, 1 small pump may not be large enough to get flow through all the rads, or flow is favoring the easiest path back to the boiler, and system needs to be balanced at the rad valves.
