buderus g115/28

we replaced a new yorker oil fired boiler mid oct with a buderus g115/28 and a riello f-3 burner. house is a ranch style with a 2 car garage attached to home , boiler is in garage area.burner worked great until yesterday call comes in boiler starts and rumbles, then re ignites,,,when we arrived we found garage door wide open and inside garage temp at 28 degrees, the burner would ignite and lose flame retention unless we covered our hand over air intake on burner.,draft is 0 over fire, but when we set it up it was 64 degrees and co2 was 12% now unit was over aired.. told home owner to keep door closed in cold weather or close in boiler area, we got a concerned look and then he said my 30year old new yorker never had a problem... any suggestions..

    smack HO

up the side of head... Completly diff. animal. New stuff has higher pressures and atomization is effected by cold. One of the reasons I prefer the Carlin EZ pro burner is that it has a burner nozzle heater.Cold oil will not help either.
What burner and RPM was the old set up?

  • old burner was a beckett afg 3450 but ran with an under ground tank, it has been replaced with a 330 gal tank inside garage, which was cold just like the burner,,,home owner is impressed with the logamatic and great hot water from the lt150 tank just not happy with cold run issue... thanks..

Most combos will show no smoke at 14%, I've found that setting many Riello / Buderus combos at 12% during warm months result in poor performance in cold weather. Draft and oil viscosity changes. I never set them lower than 12 1/2% and usually don't have any problems.
