good ductless split system

I have a Fujitsu Halcyon in an addition that is about 15x30. Today, outside it's in the low 20's and we're feeling no heat coming from the unit. Is that to be expected?

    ductless split heatpumps

    hello
I'm looking to install a ductless heatpump. someone added a second floor to a house but didn't bother to bring ductwork up the walls from the gas furnace before sheetrocking the wall. so they don't have any heat upstairs. I like "cooling only" ductless systems but have only installed one ductless sanyo heatpump years ago but it often shut down on the coldest days. so I've been reluctant to install another. but under the circumstances I may have to.
so can someone please recommend a ductless heatpump that will work on very cold days?

Denis, I am not sure what you mean by "very cold" days. Up here in Maine, heat pumps do not work in the winter.

I have installed many Fujitsu Halcyon mini-split heat pumps. The heat pumps come in handy on radiant jobs, in the shoulder seasons, when you just want to knock the chill out of the air without heating up the whole floor.

They have been reliable thus far.

    mini split heatpumps

cold days like in january, february, 25 degrees and lower. guess I can try a fijutsi mini split. the area I'm installing it is on the top floor with a heated space beneath it. if the manufacturer says it will work down to zero then I guess it should. I forget what the manufacturer promised on that sanyo mini split heatpump I put in years ago dbut it consistantly cut out when the temperature was well above zero. but it worked fine with temperatures around 30 and above.
maybe I did something wrong with the installation.

    You can run....

The Fujitsu's heat effectively down to 20F. They will work below that but outputs diminish. For output info on each model and low temp limits, which vary by model, go to www.fujitsugeneral.com. Careful here, as the low temp limits vary by model (0, 5, 14F). Also, if you register in the contractor section, the username and password are "installer" and "1ton12kbtu" you can find output temps by model at temps dwon to I think it is 5f.

Prior to the introduction of the inverter units and the 410A equipment, if you told me you were buying a heat pump I would have said, "what are you, nuts?" Today, if you don't buy the heat pump I have to ask, "what are you, nuts?" There has been that big a gain in performance and technology. If you are in New England you can go to www.miniheat.com and run some numbers. I represent Fujitsu in New England. If I can help you, let me know.

    Ductless splits

Good Morning,we have installed several heat pump ductless splits, Fujitsu,Sanyo, and we also install a wall recessed electric heat fan forced heater .So far everyone is happy .Given certain construction parameters this solved a lot of issues.

I prefer Mitsubishi, while it is true that as outside ambient temperatures drop, usable heating btu's are reduced, unlike conventional heat/cool systems, inverter drive technology allows the initial install to exceed air conditioning cooling capacity required. Thus, the heat output
required will not interfere with dehumidification.Lyle from Lisle.

    Electric backup

You can now get the Sanyo with electric strip heat built into the indoor units. Also the new 410A works down to lower temps than the R-22.
Hope that gives you some help.

Also look at the diffrent modles. I'm looking at the SanyoEuropen cataloge some modles hsave a low temperature cutout others say that they will continure to run regardless of the temperature.

    only the best

Daikin ductless is the best by far. they are only avilable in heat pump but will heat down to -5 deg. and still maintain a good discharge air temp. the higher models are electronic expansion valve and inverter comperssors and they have been in the biz for a long time. millons of units installed overseas.check out daikinac.com
