they're hoffman #18 traps and the rebuild units are almost the same price as new ones which are around the 54.00 mark.

steam traps...2 pipe steam
i'm on a slow campaign to switch out all of the seam traps in my house (about 20 radiators) the originals are about 80 years old. i'm using the hoffman 17C traps so if any one knows a place to get them at a good price i would be grateful...thanks.0 -
What sort
of traps do you have on your system now? Have you tried rebuilding them before replacing them?

What Rebuild Kits
have you checked out? Barnes & Jones? Tunstall? Or Hoffman (OEM)? How many have you changed over to the 17c?
Usually, the savings in time to rebuild a trap rather than replacing it is worth it.
As I remember, you have to get a new cap along with the new element for the #18, yes?

For what its worth,
i've replaced many a one or two year old 17c trap...the capsule can't handle real life rust in the 80 year old radiators..Gordo is right..bebuild the existing traps..

I am partial to Dunham bush(mepco), myself.
Well the thought to rebuild rather than replace is admerable, I have found that many times its just quicker and more cost effective to replace the whole thing.
Pros and cons to both school of thoughts.0 -
Those Mepco traps are really good..
they go years and years between rebuilds..just an outstanding trap that also passes air very quickly..wish all the traps had that kind of quality to them..i use alot of Monash traps which are build very well also..i have to special order them every time..its sad..

Gerry, Sorry to Hear
the "durastat" 17c element does not work as well as the sales literature claims it will. I guess I shouldn't be surprised.
We generally install the B&J 122, if we replace the whole trap, due to it's high venting rate. Any thoughts as to its "dura"bility?
