weil mclain module board &%#)*&@*^!

As typical happening for all service personals, made plans to meet others for pre thankgiving gathering, was called out for no heat call with the new weil mclain boiler replacment. Found the transformer fried and replaced same, rechecking the voltages at all points. Pilot trying to get relit, no voltages at the main and pilot terminals, checked the troubleshooting chart, saying module board needs replacing... its Thanksgiving and supply houses are closed... customer all p.o.ed and without heat til tomorrow. Any of you guys have problems with this module boards? Make me want to stick with standing pilot assy. Thanks for replying and Happy Thanksgiving to all...

What boiler is this are you

talking about an Ultra or a CGA.

How long ago was it installed. On basic boilers I almost never have a board issue if it is wired right. I have had electricians do stupid things and fry my controls.

I have had several cases on service calls the flow chart says board but I is actually something simple and stupid like a loos connector. No gas, some box stores do carry some heating supplies but I am yet to see a control board on the shelf.

Can you elaborate on pilot not liting, do you hear spark or see a flame at all.

Try putting a match to the pilot while it sparked.

Sure you have gas did you check. I have had the firomatic fall in, frozen meters people shut things off not knowing what they are. Sometimes it is simple fuel, air and spark.

Knob on the gas valve not locked into the right place. Clogged pilot. Did you check that the valve was not getting power from the board and if so both at the board and valve.

    There are ways

to work around the control relays.

    relays ya but

a board is different you may be able to get a fire lit in front of your face but now way to leave it. If you have done sufficient testing to know what the issue is you secure the boiler for safety and get the right part.

Sounds like he has done this.

    Safety

I did not mean to imply bypassing any safties. I am sure he is looking for the correct part today.
  • replaced

Picked up and replaced the module and transformer under warranty ( loss time and trip) system working as suppose to. At least got paid.
  • For everyones information

Integrated Control Module discussed here is made by United Technologies of the top of my head I believe their 1012 or 1013 series. The numbers on the unit are critical to get the correct operating control and sequencing.

Weil_McLain has excellent troubleshooting procedures in their manuals on these systems.

We cover these in our Advanced Electric Ignition Systems class.
  • yes...

Yes, Tim is correct regarding the troubleshooting charts, this unit model number is 1107-2, made by United Tech
  • So is this an older

    Weil-Mclain unit or fairly new?
  • its a brand new

Its a brand new Weil Mclain boiler..
