b and g pump

I am working on a problem with 2 b&g pumps series 60. The pumps in winter do fan coils and baseboards. They are mainly just puming through units not a lot of zone valves. in summer the 1 pump is off the other is on a chiller loop for fan coils. the heat is on a steam/hot water heat exchanger. the problem is we are losing bearing assemblys and couplings. motor mounts are fine, amps are fine water temp normal.loop pressure 15#. i dont have proper pressure ports for complete pump check.we have replaced complete pumps, bearing assemblys, motors. doesnt matter bearing assembly/coupling problems every 6 months. we had our chemical treatment company we use look and they say they beleive there is corrosion. the loop was drained so they couldnt get proper sample. this an old church pumps are in basement equipment next floor up. any thoughts

Are you sure the motor mounts are ok. I have been having the same problem with the 60 pumps. 2 years ago I replaced 1 complete pump, last year I replaced another pump.
On startup this year the 2 year old pump needed a coupler already, the 1 year old pump is not far behind. The motor mounts are shot on both pumps already, not over oiled as they are ball bearing so no oil.
I am looking around for a solid mount to replace all my mounts, I do not care about vibration, just want to not be in a boiler room at midnight cause another coupler let go.
On the other hand I have come Taco 1/2 and 3/4 HP pumps that are 10 to 15 years old and have done nothing to them, they just keep going.
If the flanges and spacing where the same B&G would be gone from all my buildings.
By the way the pumps only run during the winter, I also have some Goulds direct drive 3/4 pumps that run on a chiller. they run 24-7 and are 20 years old and have never required service.0 -
Kevin, we always replace mounts when we replace couplers
But you might want to switch to spiro link coupler. Won't fail for along time. Still want to do mounts probably once every few years but they will last. Also, next time you replace pump, maybe go to cartridge style, could be good bet. Tim0 -

Yes I replace the mounts when I replace the couplers also but I am a little angry that I am having to do it on 1 and 2 year old pumps.
I have used the spyro on model 100 pumps and agree it lasts forever but these are model 60, 1/2 and 3/4 HP. I have never seen the spyro in this size, do they make one??
I have tryed a LoveJoy type coupler but if the mounts sag it will pound out the pump and motor bearings in a short time.
My point is that the mounts sag in 1 year or less and take the coupler with it, if the mounts lasted so would the coupler.0 -
Kevin, yes they make the larger ones, also maybe a Woods
coupler might be a good pick also. Tim0 -
i usually put on a 56c motor cut the shaft length to fit put on a woods 3 or 4 j coupling --oh yeah and oil the damn thing --its a bit noisier because of the solid mount but on problem jobs -- it has reduced the frequency of repair/replacement of bearing assys and the motors last a lot longer + 1/2 price to replace0 -
Never thought of that, does the 56c flange line up with the 60 series bearing bolt holes or do you redrill something?0 -
the 56c lines up, same bolt pattern the shaft is too long so it needs a little trimming --0
