Using the Gill and Pajek Venting Capacity Chart

After reading about their "Balancing Steam Systems" booklet, I decided to pick it up. Do I really need to remove the air vent to figure out how fast steam will reach the open pipe (that is the same as the end of the main, right)? Is there a formula I can use instead if I know the size of the main and its length?

    The Noel Method

Using the Noel Method (as they aptly call it) will save you time. I did it once and it corroborated my size by size calculations and best guessing in a way that humbled me. It is reality.

If you want to do what I did, take off the feet of pipe, the inner volume and some assumed pressure, be my guest! I have a spreadsheet I developed to ease those calculations. Write me off line and I can send it to you.
