Steam shooting out of condensate tank vent

if the pressure is .5psi, will that prevent the steam from pushing through the 24-inch column of water leading to the tank?

Steam shooting out of condensate tank vent

Condensate tank vent on 1100 EDR one-pipe system is shooting steam out when system gets hot. The pipe to the tank rises 24" from the wet return before going into the tank. Does this mean the system pressure is greater than the ~1psi that a 24" column requires to lift?

I was thinking of getting a vaportrol to get the system pressure lower than the pressuretrol allows. The system never shuts on pressure, since the steam just shoots out. Will this help solve the problem? The system has good venting on the mains.

There are no traps whatsoever in the system.

    Suggestions?
  • 1 pipe gravity return ?

Is the tank even needed ? I know when we flush return lines on 1 pipe systems we'll get live steam from the wet returns after a while .

The tank may not have been needed in the past, but due to renovations that will force one of the condensate returns to use a condensate tank and pump, making this tank work properly is the best route to take. The present line (50-feet from the boiler) prevents a proper handicap access ramp, so we need to move the line.

    Problem Solved

Today I replaced the pressuretrol with a vaportrol. Set it at 6 oz cut-out and 4 oz differential. The system works fine and 6 oz is not enough to jump the 24 inch water line.

What should the differential be set at? When the system cuts out at 6 oz, it comes back on in less than a minute. But the radiators are all hot.

    Thanks for everyone's input.
