I Replaced a steam boiler in a very old two flat in chg,il the problem is that there is to much water in boiler after a few cycle. I can see that i have very slow water return to boiler during heating cycle but more water coming back when the call for heat ends, thus causing the boiler to over fill. what can be done to take care of this problem, later i find out that this was happening with the old system as well could i have a piping problem in the walls some where, leaking some of my return water during the heat cycle, need some help thank you.

Start with the basics. Is the boiler surging and the near boiler piping correct.

Also if it is a slow returm back to the boiler check to make sure all the radiator valves are fully open. They can not be in a partly open position it will cause water to trap in the radiator untill a off cycle and then possable flood the boiler.
