Heating oil

Diesel has additives for the cold weather demands of engines. It also has- or had- lower sulphur content. The BTU value and viscosity is essentially the same. As you mentioned, the dye is to ID it for road tax purposes.

Home heating oil / diesel fuel any difference?
I know there is a difference of diesel fuel and home heating oil, mainly the die color of it for taxation purposes.
Are there any other additives that are in either that would prevent me from buying (for over $1 less) diesel fuel at the pump and putting it in my tank at home to heat my house?0 -
Funny
here in NE PA, diesel is $1.00 more per gallon than heating oil. That is a wide disparity.
There is no problem using diesel in your home heating oil tank.

Diesel should always be more expensive than heating oil. If it isn't there is something seriously wrong.

On-road diesel has,
by Fed Reg., 15 ppm sulphur. #2 heating oil has 500, or more. Sulphur helps lubricate pump gears. Your choice. Some problems reported last season w/ fuel units using on-road diesel exclusively.0 -
i ran my oil burner for a while with on-road low sulfur diesel --i had access to 70 gallons or so --i figured i'd save a little money during the summer --well i ended up seizing the oil pump from lack of lubrication ---so for the savings i had to subtract the amount for the pump replacement --and if i had'nt done it myself i would not have saved anything at all0 -
I was under the impression that Veissmann had some ultra low sulphur oil (To Learn More About This Professional, Click Here to Visit Their Ad in "Find A Professional"There was an error rendering this rich post.
