Outdoor reset & electric boiler

on a stat call the circ starts, the first element is energized, then the relay from that(bi-metallic) powers the second & so-on up to the 6th.
So on every stat call I think all 6 eventually sequence themselves "on" up to limit. Seems like some sort of smart in/out controller would prohibit this?
If there is such an animal.

Dave

• I saw the thread

pertaining to in/out reset being worth-it, what about an electric boiler?
I have a client interested in trying one, but these are not really my bag.
Her unit is 30KW(6 elements), is in/out reset available that will only allow a few elements to energize on a warmer day, or do they all run full tilt on a heat call?
She has CIBB on Monoflow(only 1 zone), and I would wire the circ continuous.

Depends on

how the boiler's set up Dave but i think most stage on elements based on how far away from setpoint they are. If you went this route with outdoor reset and were calling for lower temps you may not be bringing on as many elements as if you were looking for higher temps.

Cast iron baseboard will require higher temps than some other emitters but would still benefit from ODR.

They do make electric boilers with outdoor reset. See:

• Thanks for the

link Paul, but I`m having a prob finding this specific add-on.
Do I try to sell another boiler here, or are these available separately?

• tekmar

tekmar makes an OEM outdoor reset control called the BC-1 for Super-Hot that stages the elements, not sure if it's available on it's own though I did see it in their display cabinet at tekmar HQ. I have used a tekmar 4 stage boiler control (264) wired to the element relays for staging once before and it worked great.

Choices

I'm only aware of the Electo boiler made with integral OD.

• Guess I`ll have to

get together with a knowledgeable electrician,(they never understand though), or build-up something myself.
Am I wrong thinking only a few elements(if needed), should be started?
IMO outdoor reset could be fully gained this way.

With a stand alone control for mixing reset (Taco PC705 or Tekmar 356) the boiler will modulate to the temp set on the boiler. I have found that the OEM ODR doesn't have enough adjustment
• Thanks Joe,

I`ll take a hard look in that direction.
