Combustion analyzer

I've never found it an issue.

Once my probe is in the breech and has stabilized, if I make any adjustment I'll wait until the readings are stable again to feel confident. I'm guessing maybe 20 seconds. That 20 seconds is a minimum time imposed by me, not a limitation of the equipment.

I dont know if I would trust instant any measurement of a change I make. I figure once combustion changes, that change has to clear the environment of the combustion chamber, flues, and breech to then give my analyzer an accurate measure of the environment inside the boiler.

  • I am looking for a new combustion analyzer...

I like the Fyrite insight, but I have seen the UEI eagle 2 on sale. Anyone have any experiance with the UEI model?

    Thanks,

I dont have any UEI experience, but I am a rabid Testo fan.

I first got a Bacarach Fyrite Pro, sold it to some shmuck just starting out (sorry Dave), then picked up the Testo 330 and I've never turned back. Field replacable sensors,.. field replacable everything, very easy to maintain, the interface has tons of options, a selection of fuels from #2 to pixie dust. I love my Testo!

    Norm-how quick

How quick is the response on the Testo 330 ? I have a TPI and I don't like it all because it takes a long time to readjust to a change. That is the same complaint I have with the UEI equipment as well, slow to respond.

where did you get your Testo? Did you get it local, because I am from MA also.

Sid Harveys, Johnstone Supply, and I think Bell Simons all sell testo.

    I tried a Wohler

I tried a Wohler on friday and when you make a change, it responds very quickly. I am really impressed with the Wohler. I agree about the flame stabilization before any new changes are made. The problem I have with my TPI is that I do a lot of gas and it takes too long to adjust to any changes made. With oil, I normally have more time to make adjustments, but not so on the mod/con boilers.
  • Still,,,

Does the Insight have a NOx filter? it didn't look like it from the video.

Another thing I love about the Testo is the battery is rechargeable.

I do like the logo feature on the insight though, thats nice.

    NOx

Just a question, how important is the NOx filter issue?

At 100ppm it potentilally adds 5 to 10 ppm to only a flue gas reading (maybe nothing - it depends on the level of NOx production). It also doubles the cost of the sensor/calibration.

We can put an acid or NOx filter on any sensor, this is not new technology (actually close to 25s year old), it just brings up other complications.

I'd be very interested in hearing if that small of a difference in a reading is really important.

To me what is more important is getting the sensor calibrated every year (or after you hammer it with CO a bunch of times) which the Insight allows you to do without sending it in.

Actually, you have been able to calibrate Bacharach instruments for years - that info is right in the operator's manual. Just with the Insight, you don't need to invest in the calibration gear.

BTW, you can also use rechargeable AA batteries in our instruments - we discussed this with the Insight, figured we'd let the customer decide.
