Circs on both sides

Came across your basic 3 zone Weil McLain Oil fired 4 sec boiler piped the "old way" with the circs on the return. Seems that at one time or another the homeowner added additional zones (two to be exact). Thing is they installed the new zone circulators on the supply header. I didn't want to stir up a hornets nest until I checked with the proper authorities so I told him the piping arrangement was unique but I wanted to make sure it wasn't doing any harm to his system. Will a circulator piped on the supply side for one zone. And a circulator piped on the return side for the other zone do any harm to the heating system?

Once upon a time when I was a helper to my father, we took a monoflow system and installed a zone valve on each monoflow riser and wired the valves to appropriate thermostats in order to zone the house.
That was my fathers great idea. Later I found out it would have been better if we connected the monoflow supply and returns with a bridge to alleviate pressure drop when the valve is closed.
Anyways, my Father imagined there would be pressure drop, and also installed a circ on the return side. His thinking was that although the return side circ wouldnt be adding any "head", the suction side of the circ may do some good.
A good 15 years later, the system still works fine.
Based on that, which is my only 2 circulator experience, I'd say its likely fine.

Yes it could
Depends on arangement . If one is pumping toward the tank and the other away , one zone could cross out the other zones pressure drop. None or decrease across the zone affect the flow across that zone. High pressure goes to low pressure. Where did I hear that ?There was an error rendering this rich post.
