Electric backup for high efficiency boiler

i have a 1500 va ups [from best buy] on my gravity steam system.
the electrician wired a special switch and outlet for it so i can have the boiler powered through the ups, or straight from the house wiring.
we used to have fairly frequent outages before then.now with the ups--not one in a year!!-nbc

Electric backup for high efficiency boiler

Loved the books I bought, big help in reducing my water hammer. Now that I have a high efficiency boiler, when the power goes out, I'm hosed. As I understand it, the electricity requirements for the boiler are pretty minimal, so I'm wondering what the options are for a small electric backup for brief power outages. Will a small battery system suffice, or should I be looking at generators?

    Thanks much!

Thanks, this sounds perfect since my system is a one floor gravity steam system. How long an outage have you been able to sustain with this setup?

    Amp draw

    Which Boiler are you using?

And what is the Amp Draw of it and the Amp Draw of the Circulating pump?

I have used a UPS from "Office Max" which keeps systems running for an Hour or Two depending on the boiler/Circ. operation.

my boiler is a peerless 1,050,000 1-pipe steam, entirely gravity, so its current draw is low.
i haven't made a test yet.before the boiler went in last year, we had 1 power cut a month.since that time--no cuts!!
    it's a 1500 va.--nbc
