one year ago i had a serv. call on a burnham v-7, it was not working and upon further inspection i found it was wet inside,i cleaned it out and tuned it up and it ran fine,i told homeowner that i thought it was a leaky fluepipe not knowing of the cracked block problems the v-7 allegedly
have that i learned of by googleing the v-7 after being called back to the unit and it being soaked again,i left
the unit isolated under 18# pressure overnight to test for a leak but it held pressure, should i raise it above 18 or what would be the best way to test.

Leaker
Burnham did have a problem with the V7 Water boiler and it showed up on the outside of casting near the cleanout doors.
Is it water or steam?
Is the leak inside the chamber or external?
We've done a few replacements and Burnham is very easy to deal with on this. Your local Burnham distributor should be able to deal with this swiftly.0 -
it is a water boiler, and i still do not see the leak as i just cleaned it out of the oil-water-soot mixture that was grease like, the unit still is holding the 18# pressure, should i bump the pressure up to 25-30 or is there a better method to find the leak if it is one.0 -

Tough to do but a cold boiler is going to leak more profusely than a hot boiler(thermal expansion comes into play) sounds like a jointing leak between sections perhaps.
A cracked section would leak hot or cold to where you could see it. Call Burnham's technical support direct as they will live up to any product issues.

leaking burnham
though I don't know the serial number, V-7's and V-8's made around 1999 - 2001 have had a problem with the push nipple's leaking between the sections, look at the top of the boiler and see if you can see any indications of this, such as large deposits between the sections are water tracking down the side of the boiler on the left side.0
