Cleveland, but know steam and spent the winter in CT last year retrp fitting geothermal. If you do not get a better bite here, try calling your nearest Bell Pump and supply.

Steam Specialist in Providence , RI Area

This is my first time posting, so please excuse any unwitting breaches of forum etiquette. Anyway, here goes: My wife and I bought a circa 1923 house in Providence last summer. It has a steam heating system with a boiler that the prior owner had installed the year before we bought the place. Our first winter in the house revealed some problems with the heating system (long time to heat up the house, uneven heating, water hammering, etc.), so this fall I set about trying to figure out what was wrong and how to fix it. I bought Dan Holohan's Steam Heat book and went over the system. It now seems to me that whoever installed the boiler totally f'ed up. The riser and headers are 1.5 inch diameter copper pipe feeding into 2 inch diameter steel (cast iron?)supply mains. This despite the manufacturer's instructions calling for the pipe to be 2 inch. (Bye-bye warranty!) In addition, none of these pipes were insulated. For safety and economy's sake, I'd like to have these pipes redone the right way by someone who knows what they're doing. I'm leary of getting a recommendation from our oil company, since they apparently recommended the knucklehead who put the new boiler in. Anyone have any suggestions for someone in the Providence area who knows their way around a steam heat system. Thanks.

    I would recommend Norm

in a heartbeat. Distance is the only issue and if Norm is willing to travel (as so often he is), it is hard to do better.

Hey Norm? Up for a road trip?
