Thatcher Furnace heating question

I know most homeowners don't recommend this, but every heating system should have an annual preventative maintenance performed. There could be several reasons for your furnace not lighting on the first attempt, thankfully it sounds like you have an issue with ignition rather than a safety not shutting off the gas, please have a pro take a look.

Thatcher Furnace heating question
We bought this house about 10 years ago, it has a gas-heating central air heating system with the name "Thatcher Furnace Company", I was told by the previous owner that all I have to do every year is simply to keep the filters clean and make sure there is oil in both the compressor and the motor which spins the fan which has a rubber belt on it just like in a car.
Last night for the very first time, I raised the thermostat 3 times between last night and this morning and the heating never came on, it only came on on the 4th try this morning. Normally everytime I raise the thermo, I would hear a click from the thermo itself and then I would hear a sound of something being lit like when you light an oven coming from the boiler room then after maybe 15 minutes or so [I never actually timed it] the boiler would start to run.
Last night when I made the first 3 attempts, I heard the click as usual and the boiler being lit but the boiler never turned on, only on the 4th try as mentioned. What I would like to know is, first of all the thermo is very old, looks a lot older than the boiler, taking into consideration the symptoms given, is this a boiler or thermo problem? If a boiler problem, whan should I do please? Thanks.0 -

Thatcher
has been out of business for at least 30 years.
Time to call in a pro to analyze the beast, check for heat exhanger cracks and quote you for replacement.0 -
If I have to do that then I might as well get just one new system which will do both heating and cooling.0
