Solar tied into radiant floor

Now I remember why I like # 1 best: When using excess solar water for supplementary heating you really need to store it because when you do have excess it would be during the day when you wouldn't necessarily need the heat so much, better to store it in a tank for use when it's needed, this would mean replacing the HX in #2 with a 2nd indirect or just do #1, simple.

    Getting the btu's

from the solar to the floor. I am submitting two ways to accomplish this and am wondering which way would be more effective. Please let me know your opinions.

Choice 1 uses the solar tanks upper coil as the HX
Choice 2 uses an external flat plate HX

I like #1 for it's simplicity although i've noticed that viessmann & others diagrams always have a separate HX. I would imagine #2 would provide more accurate control but I kinda like using the tank as a buffer, In fact I have almost the identical drawing made up for my place, a spring project...

I would be more inclined to move the tees for the indirect over

to the other side of the air purger. Then pump out to the heat x on indirect. This way with proper controls, I think you could capture heat when available but also heat tank with boiler when no solar. Just a thought, have not drawn out yet but think it would work. Tim

    solar heat

solar for dhw works well, but solar for heating should require a bunch of panels = btu's and huge storage so consider that to do it right. i dont remember the math to figure it out. this would be a fun project. oh yeah a modified version of choice 1 .
