HELP!

according to w-m, all that's known isn't in the book, and is was lockedout again within 24hrs. water flow can be what'd caused the supply and return temps to be off, which could have caused the water temp to rise too fast. and from what i was told, the connection between water flow and lockout isn't detailed in the fault list on the unit, or in the book. fortunately, we'd used flo-control check valves, and we were able to 'balance' the system. so far, so good

HELP! - w-m ultra
ultra 155 series 3 - brand new install, 1 month old, unit is showing no error codes but shutting down. all parameters/sensors were checked and verified with installation manual and with w-m; diagnosis per w-m - bad board. replaced board - same problem within a week. we noticed that the software version from original board to replacement board had already changed. tech support wasn't familiar enough with the new units, so the engineers will be getting back to us. any experience/advice would be appreciated0 -
How are you testing the inputs to the board?
New software? I am sure someone is sleepless at W/M.0 -
Did you check that the line voltage polarity is correct and there is a good ground? Improper polarity or ground will can cause faults.0 -
Define shutting down ?hard lock out
Is it just loosing power or is it locking out. If it locks out it must show a code.

well, i won't get back there
until tomorrow, but when i spoke with the tech that did that end of the install, and he said that he went as far as doing the resistive checks that are called for in the manual. when all checked out, he called w-m and they determined that the board was the problem
but we're going back tomorrow to see what we see, and i'm pretty sure that the engineers haven't called back, so....0 -
well, i think that's part
part of the problem. it locks out and responds to a 'manual' reset. but when walking through the manual and what's showing on the screen, the values are within the guidelines per the manual
might there have been a power outage? don't know. but we're going to check out the sensors again
on a unit that isn't a year old, the software update? has me scratching my head
but, it is VERY quiet, and quick to make with the hot0 -
I mulled this around again.
I agree with the polarity checks etc..
Resitance checking tells me thermistors.
I am sure W/M has more inputs into the board than just thermistors. Like flow switches, pressure switches and smoke meters.
They could have had bad "logic" in the first board and have not taken the replacement board out of "beta".
I do not know the product, but I can see electrons moving.0 -
Is the unit programed properly? It could be the domestic water setting is low. The last one I installed I got a call back after a few months and the owners tenants father "adjusted" it for better heating and actually turned the domestic hot water mode to 120 degrees but the indirect was running on an aquastat not a sensor. so when the 130 degree aquastat called for heat it was only getting 120 degree water. This caused the unit to stay on domestic mode instead of running on the outdoor reset. Not sure if it helps but they now have heat and the father is banned from the boiler room.Cost is what you spend , value is what you get.

We just had a problem with a version 3
board. But if you go into lock out history it will tell you why it locked out. Does it do it when switching to domestic. Are all your pump and pipe sizes correct for a series three ultras some of the specifications are different than the prior two series.

Thanks Mitch
Had a geothermal board beat me up until I asked it what was wrong. Not bad if I lived in CT where the unit lives, as I am in Ohio.0 -
yeah beta
is what i was wondering
0 -
tell us why it locked out?
yes, i'm sure the tech did that, and the details i don't know, but when he went through the reasons for lockout in the manual, their 'symptoms and causes' didn't equate with what he saw in the values table. tomorrow may tell the whole story0 -
w-m ultra 3
I hope they worked this bug out. I'm putting in a series 3 105 on friday. This is my first series 3, I have several series 1's and 2's working fine.
I wish they wouldn't keep changing the versions.
Please let me know if you had another issues and your end result..
Thanks,
MIke0 -
mike's series 3
the series 1 we did a couple years ago has always been fine. and the tech was initially thinking that having more sensors for 'finer tuning', has made it too touchy. and while the resistive values were correct, he was wondering if it was a hit-and-miss 'short'. i'll keep you posted
