We are heading out there next week, and my wife does not think the cowboy look will work there. Is the preppy, cape cod, sweater around the neck and cardigan look still in or is it the Morton fisherman look with the yellow rain coat & hat?

  • We are very informal

here in NE, the raincoat might not be a bad idea after the last few days.

We do have cowboys around here in fact I am near two riding stables with horses and everything.

We are in RI from 11th to 17th. Have family in law school in Warren, RI. Never seen the east coast. Until a few years back, I thought New England was a state. Quit drinkin' years ago, but would love to see a group of 'yall...

How does friday night the 14th sound?

I found this place right in Warren, I wonder how busy they get on friday night. It looks like a great selection of seafood. Perfect for a New England tavern.

    Sea Food

Nope..glad you asked but there's no good seafood here. You may be better off hitting your local Red Lobster before you get here if you want seafood.
New England is not known for good seafood. But ypu already knew that from your research, right?
Hope you're not looking for anything else like cranberries, blueberries, or maple syrup either--cause we aint got 'em either.

    Blount Seafood & Newport

    Tim,

Welcome to little ol' Rhode Island. Because we are on the other side of the USA we can't see Russia out our kitchen windows but we got some good stuff worth fight'n for. Blount Seafood is in Warren (near the Warf Tavern) and has a retail store - take some frozen "chowda" back home. Newport is just 20 minutes away and Flo's Clam Shack is a local secret for a meal. Providence is even closer; Federal Hill will satisfy your Italian food and local mob curiosity. Enjoy

    Right!!

lousy sea food and lousy Beer did you know all they make here is things Like Sam Adams and long Trail we don't have any of that great watered down sugar water stuff like Bud and Coors like you westen guys have.

Music ohh it's awful i mean all we've got is Areosmith,Boston,The Cars,j Giels, The Boston pops, The BSO, out there in the west you guys have got that Brittney chick and the Cheetah girls!

And sports well shoot we got stuck with Fenway/sox,Da Gahden with the Celtics and this hideous place we call the Razor and a team called Dah Pat's.

Yup it's a good thing your just coming to visit cause it stinks living here.

    fashion

if your looking to perhaps Ahem,"misplace" the little lady you could tell her that pointy hats are still in fashon along with brooms as a walking stick and take her over to Salem cause we burn our witches here....
  • The Gorton's look,,,

is always in around here, but you have to smell like dead fish to really make it work. Sorry it's a bit too far for me (I just looked) but try to do your best with the crummy seafood and crappy beer! ;)

  • I would love to join

you all on the 14th but I have a previous engagement that evening. I am however available on Saturday night the 15th just in case you wanted to consider that evening. In that case Judy and I would love to get together with you.

Tim you and I are meeting that day (the 14th)at 11 AM so I can show you around a little bit. By the way what hotel are you staying at in Swansea Tim?

As for the Wharf Tavern it has gone down hill considerably in recent years so I do not recommend that for a good place to eat.

There are other good places nearby and one is in Swansea called Venus DeMilo great food soup (they are know for their soup)to nuts and everything in between. It is located on Route 6 (GAR Highway) in Swansea, I would suggest there and they have lots of room to move around and get together.

If I can be of any assitance just let me know and I can even if I am not going to be going make reservations for you if you give me a count as to who is coming.

I would also invite everyone to see my training center as it is just up the road 10 minutes from Swansea.

Saturday works for me Tim. And since you live in the area I'd gladly follow your recommendations on where to go.

Why dont you make a new thread about the RI big ugly and we'll get things firmed up?

Saturday is fine with us. Baked lobsta sure sounds good! Are there any cool revolutionary war things to see in the area? We are trying to fit some fun in besides looking at property in Warren. Beautiful homes out there...

  • Kind of far but,,,

Groton, CT has Fort Griswold where the Brits massacred the remaining occupants after a long hard battle. Interesting history and you can still tour what's left of the fort and the museum. A guy by the name of General Benedict Arnold was in command of the British forces there that day. http://www.revwar.com/ftgriswold/

    and: http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.ancestry.com/~gmasue/griswold.htm

mapquest estimates 65 miles/ 1.25 hours one way but if you have the time it's worth it.

No guarantees that it's ghost free. ;)
  • R.I. history

plenty of history in newport-how about vikings!
also the grand old mansions of the rich and infamous.
also might be able to see the torpedo factory if it is still there.

I say wear the cowboy hat as you are what you are and here in the berkshires anything goes with fashion.
Cost is what you spend , value is what you get.
