Gravity system

I have a hydronic radiator gravity system circ 1930s in a house that is 1910. The mains in the basement are 3-1/2" cast iron. All of the radiators home run to the basement. I would like opinions about making a new manifold and piping each radiator back to the manifold at the boiler. And remove the big cast iron pipes.
thanks

The reason they designed it that way
is because electricity wasn't common in those days. I'd keep the self-circulating capability of those big pipes. We just may need it later......
