Steam boiler skimming preferences ?
share their strategies ? I know it's important to follow the boiler instructions , but I bet some have found better and faster ways ?
We add a mild cleaner before startup and let the system steam with the return isolation valve closed . We dump any crud that makes it back through the return while steaming . Then we start skimming while the system is still hot .
The skimming - is it best to keep a steady stream of water flowing out ? Or to add water , let it drain to a trickle and keep repeating ? And how do you know when you are done skimming ? Generally we skim 20 or 30 gallons on a residential steamer , but that's just a guideline and we hope we skimmed enough at that point .
