So, I tried the Storm for a week and sent it back.
What a piece of crap.
I'm so disappointed.

the blackberry
Hey guys. I can't believe I am accessing the wall out on the road. I have had this bb for about 3 months...I love it...it has been the single best thing I have done in along time to improve my service response time. I am out shopping w/ family + started playing around. Cool mad dog

How does the bb improve your response time over a regular cell phone?

I got one
a month or so ago . I'll guess Matt used to have a phone without email and internet capabilities , just like me .
The Blackberry is a real great phone . Access to The Wall is a big plus0 -
Ok, back home now...
Norm, As a small business operation, I cannot afford to spend the 10-15 minutes each phone call requires....the pipe and boiler don't get installed. We have the office phone for reg messages and the recording encourages folks to email me via blackberry and if it is a really urgent true emergency the cell. It enables me to relay messages immediatley and then get right back to work. In the past, I would not retrieve emails until I got home...sometimes 10 or 11pm. Encouraging this also steers people toward my website which is on every email. I had been wanting a BB for a long time, but the final straw was when I dropped my cell phone in a large mug of coffee whilst walking down the stairs with my hands full of stuff...the phone took a swan dive to java heaven and that was the impetus. Also, a very good customer of ours was unable to get us for two days once...my computer was down for repairs, I forgot to check cell. He said, you REALLY should get one of these. I did. Mad Dog

I have an office phone for normal messages, and on the outgoing greeting it encourages customers to call my cell for emergencies.
Do you find your customers prefer sending you an email versus calling your cell?

When a customer calls and says "I got yor number from..." I ask if they would mind sending an email with address, list of issues, and everything else, and I promise to call them the same evening. My phone does email & web browsing. The power was out a half day last week and I did not feel like firing up the genny, so I answered all email from the phone...it was great.

Cool tools
I have a phone system from Talkswitch. I hooked it up myself and it is incredible. It directs calls any way you want. It will actually direct emergency calls to my cell phone if nobody answers in the office. It also takes messages, converts them to wav files and attaches them to an email and can send them to multiple recipients. I have yet to use all the features. I know some customers hate to get an auto-attendant, but life is full of little disappointments. As soon as I can spare another 30 grand, I'll hire a CSR.

I was thinking,,,
shouldn't the title be "Mad Technology Modern Dog"?0 -
Some do...but it was more a matter of necessity for me
I was getting way too many NOT REAL EMERGENCY calls and then quite a few that just choose to ignore the suggestion (the passive-aggressives - I guess). The firm message on the machine about "real" emergencies only please AND fielding the BB messages so quickly has greatly increased my install time and reduced the phone time. Also...BIG plus, this puppy has GPS. Mad Dog

perhaps. Some thought I would hate it and have trouble with it as I am VERY obstinate and slow to change. However, when I decide it IS time to change...get outta my way. I still "HATE" computers most times but am getting better with them all the time. Mad Dog

Crackberry
I'm right on the cusp of getting one. I've had my phone for 3 yrs now. It just keeps on going. Plus I live a 1/2 hr from RIM HQ and my nephew works for them. If Mad Dog can move into the new millennium so can I.

Blackberry Curve 8310
It's the phone I use. Computers may be obsolete someday and everybody will be carrying around one of these mobile command units. Email, Internet, texting, phone calls, music, movies, camera and voice mails all in one portable unit. This does it all. I carry a home and business office with me at all times...

The Storm is scheduled for release on 11-6-2008 for Verizon Wireless.
Played with a Storm and it works very well. The virtual keyboard is not bad but takes some getting used to.
If you can afford the 399 price tag it probably is the best if not darn close to the best there is right now.0
