Solar Heated Hot Water On Roof??

Im wondering if its feasable to do a solar heated hot water system on my roof that ties into my existing hot water??

I remember getting one of Dan's newsletters about a guy in China who used beer cans! LOL

Seriously is the technology out there more readily available for this? Im in the NYC area so the freezing issue in the winter would be a concern.

I would like this to be a mostly DIY project (installing on roof, running pipe down the house and into the basement).. although I would probably hire a plumber to connect to the existing hot water system..

Any ideas or places I could buy a system like this?? Im talking about where the hot water is stored in a tank on the roof and used as needed -then the existing 50 gal gas heated hot water inside the house would kick in secondarly

integrated collector storage. Very common in warm climates. Rheem/ Solarhart systems have been around for many years. Roof loading may be a concern.
