Steam Air Vent

check your steam pressure; which if too high, will destroy vents as fast as you can put them in.even undersized vents should close when the steam hits them.
also check that they are protected from water hammer and make them into expensive paperweights in a few steam cycles.
as a result of my early inexperience, the papers never blow off my desk!--nbc

I have a older steam system I have been working on and have replaced the main line vents twice now and they still will keep blowing off and not closing. I put in a Dole 284h06 that I was told from my local whole sale person this is what is needed. Is there a chance that these could be undersized? This building is a 3 unit appartment building with one boiler, and I know that some of the upper radiators are shut off because one tenant is too warm so they shut down some valve's, would this also be part of the problem. Any comments on this would be helpfull. Thanks in advanced
  • Dole vents are rather small

Measure the length and diameter of the steam mains and we can tell you what you need.
