Cold Skim Boiler

I recommend skimming with temp around 180 degrees or so, just prior to steaming. The one thing you need when skimming is patience, patience, patience. Make sure you use a full skim tapping if available, too often see it bushed down to 3/4, keep water level at about 1/2 way point and let it runout slowly.

Cold Skimming
When cold skimming a steam boiler does it have to be completely cold or just not firing and given time to settle out?0 -
Skimming
What is skimming? Does that refer to the removal of that rusty brown gunk in the water that seems to be the upper half of what shows in the sight glass on my Burnham Megasteam boiler?0 -
cmann
the answer is yes.
And that dirty water makes your boiler working harder then it is suppose to, and wasting dollars down the drain, get rid of the dirty water.0 -
when is the best time to skimming a new install?
I would assume that youd need to run the system a bit to get the cutting oil and pipe dope out. There was an error rendering this rich post.
