Ice melt side walk question

Hello, I have a little bit of side walk I installed some tubing in at our office. When it comes to heat exchangers, I'm a bit of a novice. I have bought those small flat plate units in the paste from small baseboard zones (off of a water heater), and the local suppliers claims they're rated for 100,000 btu, or something like that. Seems hard to believe (that's why I'm the novice). So, my side walk is 50' x 5' wide, and two small returns to the doors at about 3 1/2' x 7'. I have 5/8" tube 8" cc. Thanks for any thoughts, Gary

    So about

299 square feet of area? If so I'd go with at least 150 btu/ square feet. or about 44,850 BTU required. For heavy snow areas or faster response consider 175 btu/ sq. ft. I've seen designs at 200 for critical public access ramps, etc.

The HX would be sized based on the BTU load type and % of fluid, and the operating temperatures on A and B side, etc, etc.

Have a heat exchanger rep help you with sizing. Plenty of exchange in those small bricks :)

thanks hr, I'll see if I can get more info. The local supplier usually says "it'll work" with no numbers.
