Vinegar?

I'm about to install a replacement radiator on my single pipe steam system. I needed a couple of 1 1/2" fittings, and none of the retailers here in my part of Wisconsin sell anything over 1" in black. None of the plumbing supply houses here in the greater Sheboygan metropolitan area will sell to individuals anymore either. It makes for some unusual challenges. If I need something as simple as a radiator vent, I can't buy the one sitting on the shelf a half mile from my home. Instead, I generally wind up ordering one online from an East Coast supply company and waiting a week for the UPS truck . . .

So anyway, instead of getting black fittings all the way from NYC, I bought galvanized fittings at the local home center and soaked them in vinegar overnight. The galvanizing has all been dissolved away now. I plan to scub them up and put them in.

Anybody see a problem with doing this? Thanks in advance!
