Dole valve no. 6B

Ran across an old Dole valve No. 6B, at the end of a main on my friend's one pipe steam system. It says something on the valve about having a vacuum valve patent on it. Is this just a normal air vent, or is there something I'm missing here?

It's an air vent
that can hold vacuum. It lets air out but not in.
This worked great on coal but not on oil or gas. Time to replace it.
