pretty straight forward so I don't think you'll find any mistakes here, but please go ahead :)
We replaced an atmospheric gas boiler with this Buderus GB. The mech. room had no good access to the outside, so we installed PVC in the chimney ( yes there is nothing else in the flue).
This was done by JCA and Lou and I like how Chris put the expansion tank behind the wall we built.
The mech room is very open so we tool our combustion air form the room and thats O.K. with Buderus.

PS: This house is a rental and the renter told me that he was very impressed with the job and that my men where very polite and clean and neat about the job. You just can't ask for more.

Nice
Good man that Chris.0 -
As usual nice job. Just curious, why all of the return temp gauges? What are the zones and why would you need to know the return temp for each zone?0 -
Ted,
REAL quick trouble shooting , as to which zone has no heat...and just 1 more tool to get any of us out of the basement quicker.
I can also see which zones may need to be be tweaked to get a good Delta T and proper flow. (If I did see a troubled spot, the ball valve WOULD be changed to a more accommodating, and less noisy way of throttling the flow. Ball valves get noisy with high flow and the customer will hear it quickly too.)
Thanks Paul. Chris0 -
Looks pretty nice
I like the idea of hiding the expansion tank. If another contractor tried to work there he might not find it. That'll teach him. Also with the air valve turned for easy access. I like the dark blue paint used on the zone panel boards. (my lawyers will be in touch. patent right infringment on the "Wayco" Blue) or you could just buy me a beer next time I see you guys. Very nice work. WW

Wayne,
Which is the air valve you speak of? (I did it, and there are only 2 that I can think of)

Nice Job!
I just hid an expansion tank like that the other day. We will see what ace troubleshooter can find it. HA! What's with all those Grundfos pumps? Looks like a Wilo Eco could have filled the bill, Hunt is pi**ed now!
I know we all sound like broken records complimenting each other on our craftsmanship but most posters here are the exception to the rule. It always makes me feel good to know that there are people/companies that really do care about the quality of the installation. Not just how fast the check clears. It does take some guts also to put your installation pictures up here for all the world to take a look at. Kudos to Team Milne, Men that I am proud to call friends!

PUMP AWAY
Beautiful wall of pumps-Do not kid yourself-Your utility company loves all the kw's consumed with spinning impellars everywhere0 -
Hydronic Gods...forgive me. I have sinned!
I'm guilty of the "too many pumps syndrome" that we have all become accustomed to.
I CAN assure you, that we are trying to make Markie Hunt a happy camper, and are now working toward using more zone valves and less pumps, in the vain of "Green".
I'm more than happy to work this way and have to thank both Mark for the pumps.... and Taco for taking all the guesswork out of the wiring of zone valves.
The advent of the ZVC (and final acceptance!)is the highest accolade I can give to Taco. I am going to now see that electrical usage becomes another factor in the process for deciding the best heating system for our customers.
It will become a bigger factor in the design of new systems and something we will consider before the final sales pitch. Chris0 -
drains
shouldn't there be some drains above the pumps, if the pumps have checks in them.0 -
Pumpen Intelligenz
Like always your job's looks nice!!
Little positive criticism:
Maybe if the flow conditions allow, try one piece brass manifolds, i.e Caleffi they are very nice and have the flow indicators build in.( It Save's time with the Install,Time is money)
Isoflanges: they have the pump purge point build in..
Do not be a Pumpaholic..(DO the "green" thing and save some KILL O WATTS UPP!!)
Using sie die Wilo Stratos Pumpen Intelligenz (*Use one pump versus ten)

I meant the
air valve on the x tank. The one to "PUMP..IT..UP." Keep up the good work. WW

I agree with the pumps
but I think its funny that this technologies is really just coming to us and I we are criticized for not being there first? We do allot of jobs with zone valves and you'll see those and you'll see us use the Wilo Stratos more ... but really.. a few pumps are not a case to be criticized.

You do great work Chris!
Another job well done!

Sorry for the criticism , Beautiful job!
Just keep in mind: Your (Or your Customers) system efficiency is lowered by the >>> 8 X .75 amp draw on the ? 15-58 circs <<<
This Amp draw is approx 6 AMPS !!
Even if you installed one Circulator (Which is nothing new from Europe) you can reduce your "Phantom load" by approx 4.3 Amps..
Also all of the switching relays and wiring/Labor must have added to the cost of this project.
Sorry that i am an one Circulator Kinda guy ( brain washed from european trade school)
If one looks at the Live time additional operating cost/Maintaince this can go into the Thousends of Dollars!
It is not "JUST" a few pumps !
Again your jobs are very nicely done.
Looks like you and your guys put Pride into what you are doing!!
Heatmeister0 -
It is \"just\" a few pumps
compared to this that I did ten yeras ago.
We are learning. Remember Richard I grew up in this trade when zone valves failed all over the place.
Thanks for the input.

Failing Zonevalves...
Yes i know everyone mainly used HW, WR Eries stuff like that.
The reliability is pretty poor on these Products compaired to TRV's which cannot be retro fitted easy some times!
Ever try the Caeffi Zonevalves or if you want to buy American the taco 571 have an good track record too.0 -
scotty
vedy nice but i was thinking Capco has those nifty copper manifolds for Zvalves or pumps. Would save you lots of time VS cleaning and soldering all those Tees, ask Tim about it cost a few bucks but i think it saves me overall. How many man days of labor for that job, like to compare to how where doing.0 -
Job well done.
Good points J.C.A.0 -
No Pro Press?
Too much$?
Or am I thinking of someone else.0 -
Go to the RPA website. There you will find a webinar called " Zoned vs Circulators," by Robert Bean. It's a great education on why & when to use or not to use pumps on each circuit. Beautiful job though. You take much pride in your work & it shows. We are all learning here. The RPA is a great resource to better educate yourself. In short it's recommened to use zoned pumps when most of your zones require 3-4 gpm each. By only using 3/4" pipe on each of your circuits, we MIGHT be able to assume my prior statement is true for this install, depending on the load required for each circuit and the desired delta T.0 -
Shame on me. How can I speak about resources & not suggest the wonderful books you can buy from this site. Primary-Secondary made easy, pumping away, ect...0 -
re: Nice work
Nice work Scott, I was wondering how many man hours did you log on that job ?, just curious. I have been using these pre built manifolds and the time savings are significant, also using black iron has reduced my intial cost, because of the price of copper fittings. Again Nice job.0
