160 is like 4-5 radiators.
Are you sure you did it right?

    Fred., if you're not sure

    take some pics of your radiators- front and side of each, and include the height- and post them here. We can ID them.

    boiler

    it is a very small house with a total of 7 rads. they are all column rads x 38" in height. 1 is 3 column 8 sections = 40
    next are 4rads- 2 column x 4 sections= 64
    next are 2rads- 2 column x 7 sections= 56
    toal edr= 160

    i think i did this right i got the numbers out of dans book for the rads not sure how to convert that 160 edr to boiler charts to figure out what size boiler to buy,wanted to go with weil mclain
    thanks edddie

    I=B=R ratings

    The IBR ratings include a column for "square feet steam." This is the number that you match to the radiator edr square footage that you have. This rating matches you to a boiler that has adequate output for your heating needs and the pickup factor of 1.33 altogether.

    So for 160, you only need a EG30 with a rating of 196 square feet steam. Thats the smallest steam boiler they make. Other brands may have smaller boilers to more closely match your needs. For example, Burnham makes the "Independence" Boiler which is available in the IN3 with a rating of 158 square feet steam. This is materially exactly what you need, since the piping is usually more limited in smaller systems as yours.

    I have attached the EG brochure where you want to look at page 4 for the ratings. Also attached is the Independence brochure for comparison. They are both good boilers, and the EG would not be grossly oversized if you were to choose it, but Independence would be a perfect match and save you some energy.
