Can I Remove and Plug Vapor Equalizing Valve?

I have a Gorton Vapor Equalizing Valve No. 4 on one of my steam risers in my bathroom.
The valve makes the bathroom humid and I was wondering if I can just remove it and plug it up with a bolt.
I live on the top (5th) floor of a brownstone in NYC. Will removing and plugging up this valve do any harm besides not heating my bathroom efficiently?
Also, when would be a good time to do this without asking the landlord to turn off the boiler? Would it be ok to remove the valve when the pipe is cold?
Thanks much in advanced!

remove gorton vent?
better not remove it without talking to the landord:however tell him that its constant hissing indicates a sign of over-pressure in his steam system which will waste more fuel until it is checked out.if he pays for the fuel he may take an interest.
those valves if operating properly on a low pressure system should be silent for the most part.
encourage him to visit this site and buy the steam books available here which will pay for themselves in short time.--nbc0
