I have a old GE boiler with 235,000 BTU. I want or should I say I need to replace the gas valve assembly. It is one of those old type with the bi-metalic plates that after it heats up the valve opens and I don't find it safe. My question is: I want to replace it with a honeywell unit. What kind should I buy??? Also do the new gas valves have a reg in them? If you need more info - just ask
Thanks

Hard to say.......
Get the part number off your existing gas valve and take it to your local controls dealer; Johnstone, Burke Engineering......whoever you have in your area that sells Honeywell replacement parts. It's their job to figure out the correct replacement.0 -
John you can replace
with a Honeywell VR8300A-4508 with built in regulator so you can remove any regulator in line before existing gas valve. This valve is a 24 volt standing pilot 3/4" by 3/4" valve that will handle up to 300 cubic feet per hour so your 285,000 is just under that.It will work fine with a thermocouple which I assume you have for a pilot system.
If this has another style of pilot however then it may be a good time for a new boiler.
If you are not a professional then hire one to install the valve.0
