I think I heard something about Atlanta last spring somewhere but that was it. I hadn't seen any promo in media I usually peruse. Previous ISH-es USA seemed to be way more high profile..

Anyone go?
Again, swamped with work so I did not make it down.
But I have not seen any one post any comments or pics.
What's new? , products?, how were the seminars. Where are they going
to next in 2010.

Good question...
I saw Dave Yates, (GREAT working with you Dave. Look forward to doing it again!) his wife Lois, Mrs Rohr, Mr Rohr, the crew fron BNP, the crew from Penton, and a couple of other folks, but the hall was EMPTY...
I think they had the "perfect storm" working aginst them. Bad attendance at the last show, failing stock market, gasoline shortages in Atlanta, and a heating conference in the fall that they have been told is not a good idea many times over.
I heard from a reliable source that there were only 3,000 badge scans at the front door during the whole show.
Many vendors I spoke to said "Never again".
Messe Frankfurt is like a pit bull though, so I suspect they will try it again, not sure when or where, but maybe they will take our recommendations into consideration.
I did not see ONE wood boiler there (dis-appointed). Most of the rest of the show was the usual fare, as usual. A few new boilers (same old Gianonni's in different skins) but not much that I saw to get excited about.
BUt that's just my take.

I'm not surprised...
ISH won't make it in the USA unless they move (and stay) in the same location. Chicago works best because it's a central air hub. They'll also need to consolidate with another show or 2, which has proved very difficult. No one wants to share the cash cow. Scheduling the show at the start of heating season and south of the Mason-Dixon simply doesn't work.

Ditto here ME
Looking forward to doing another tag-team show(G).
ME & I had a very interesting breakfast with the folks from Messe Frankfurt and the next evening, a dinner with the ISH-NA folks. Lots of give-n-take & as ME said, it'll be interesting to see if any of the ideas take root.
The idea of consolidating many of the shows into one that's held once every two years makes sense. As RB pointed out in another thread, all the shows add up to millions spent over a wider spread that, IMHO, waters down the individual show appearances until you get what we're getting - rows and aisles of booths that pretty much look similar without a great deal of gotcha curb appeal. Save millions for research & advancement & roll out the new products at the big show.
As a contractor, ISH-NA's lowered attendance enabled me to have access to lots of manufacturers for more in-depth conversations than we would have had were it crowded.
ME & I had some fun pulling the Viessmann booth guy's leg when we asked him why his vacuum tubes were installed backwards! "Copper shiny side up, right?" The look on his face was priceless(G).

faces and places
It's always fun catching up with old friends. Seems there is never enough time, however.
Interesting to see the familiar faces in new places. Jan at Mr. Pex. Ed Nordstrum, formerly Viessmann, now at Heat Transfer Products. Mark from Schuco now at Viessmann.
Who's on first
Attendence seemed awfully light.
Great exhibit hall and conference rooms, first class. The rooms for the meetings were perfect.
I'm not sure what is next for ISH NA? The formula has been tried in how many cities now? Including hydronic specfic areas. It hasn't seemed to hits the mark yet.
Perhaps the cyclical nature of trade shows?
Sure is fun to see "green" and solar shows booked and overbooked.
Intersolar came to the US from Germany this year for the first time. Attendence was great, they plan on doubling the space next year.
Maybe ISH needs to look no further than down the street in the "fatherland" to find a partener with a wildly growing following. Alternate and green energy shows are breaking records everywhere they land.
A fad??
I suspect not the flywheel is spinning and picking up energy with every gust of wind and ray of sunshine.

Shows
The big problem with these shows is that there are too many of them to begin with. A person could make a career out of attending all of these things, Some do! I am thinking that a company better stay installing as much as they can right now while they have the work and cash flow because mark my words things are going to get much worse and business is going to dry up!!!!

Location. Location. Location
Quite honestly, I only went to ISH in Vegas because...well...why not write off a trip to Vegas?
I took my wife, she lounged at the pool and walked around while I enjoyed the show, which was full of great information and new products.
At night we went to nice restaurants, played some games and did some sightseeing.
A trip to Atlanta is much less appealing.
