for pipes that carry steam. The soldered joints can break.
We use Teflon tape and red hi-temp silicone on black steel piping for steam, using either cast or malleable fittings depending on what's available.

Type of material for steam pipes
I was wondering what the opinions were on using different pipe materials on steam (cast,black,copper) If threaded pipe what type of sealant being used (tape, dope, both). My personal opion is using cast and dope but have heard several other opinions using other products and not having any issues.0
