Gravity branch lines

I have a customer that has a downfeed gravity system and its been converted over to force circ years ago. With no boiler bypass.
He also put in new floor that now has made the connection form the mains to the rads off by acouple of inches.
He want to take the brach line and make them smaller to make up for the new height.
This is a standard tee one pipe system.I'm thinking by doing so we will create more pressure drop at the rad so the water is going to keep moving down the main.
Is there any forgiveness in this case when it comes to it being a downfeed system? These rads connect on the side of the main going down thru a room.
TIA.
