    OSV Valve Question

Hello all--I have a new 275 gal oil tank outside with 1 line going through my foundation to the burner-I have hot air here at my house..Where the line comes in there is a shut off valve--Then the line comes down the wall to the Garbar spin on filter housing then after that--We have an OSV valve-then a line from that to the burner..Its been like that for a few years--Can someone tell me if the OSV is in the wrong place? The oil is gravity fed to the burner-The tank is 6 ft above the burner outside..Also is the spin on filter better then the 1A wool type filter.. I been using the spin on Garbar for a few years and i change it every 6 months... Thanks all have a great night!!! MARK

    Safety

You said the tank is six feet above the burner. The OSV is protecting the pump seal. With the tank above the burner the pressure can exceed what the seal is rated for. I prefer a Garber but it should not have to be changed every six months unless your tank is really full of junk.

Would you say that the OSV valve should be Before the filter or after it?

    After

    After to keep it clean.

Thanks Leo! I was thinking-what if the filter let go-or the filter housing cracked--Something stupid like that--Wouldnt the OSV protect my basement better if the valve was before the filter? Right now its after the filter--but then again its staying clean.. Does the OSV need filtered oil?

Also whats you take on Garbar spin on filters VS the Wool 1A jobs? Thnaks

The Garber is a better filter. Filtered oil is better for the OSV to keep it working properly.
