Steam heat radiator -- where to buy packing nut

The packing nut on my steam radiators valve stripped while I was replacing the packing. It appear a row of threads broke off. I've been to several places and can't find where to buy one. Most places seem to only carry the entire valve itself.

It's a 3/4" size. If you respond I can email you a picture of the broken nut.

Much thanks,

John

Need help finding steam radiator packing nut before winter comes

The packing nut on my steam radiators valve stripped while I was replacing the packing. It appear a row of threads broke off. I've been to several places and can't find where to buy one. Most places seem to only carry the entire valve itself. Winter is coming soon and I don't know what to do.

It's a 3/4" size. I have attached photos. The black stuff is some leftover graphite packing on top of the white plastic insert thing. I can email you more pictures if necessary.

    Much thanks,

    John

do you know the brand name of the valve? its obviously a newer valve - if you have the brand name you can get a new 1 - the name may be on the side near the wall --use a mirror and see if there is a brand ----you would have to buy the complete valve but its a lot easier to change the nut than the valve

I found out manufactur is Matco-Norca from a sticker on the open close handle, but there's nothing anywhere on the valve indicating the size or model. I am uncertain on how to exactly measure the valve size. All the packing nuts look the same in size. I hope they can get me a single packing nut.

I would prefer not to replace the valve because I will have to get the condo association to shut off the entire system to do so.

A lesson we all learn... Brass lasts for generations as long as you treat it softly. If you force, something else is the real problem and you will pay dearly.
