ok guys need some sizing advice...

after doing a careful square foot of steam calculation I have come up with 300 sq ft steam including the 1.33 pickup factor for mains.

This is a single pipe steam system. I have gutted the house and it now has brand new windows, doors, and insulation.

so my question is? I am using the gas company to buy my new boiler because they will sell me one for $800. 84.2% afue. My options are 271 sq ft steam or 358 sq ft of steam output. DO I NEED TO GO WITH THE BIGGER BOILER OR SHOULD I USE THE SMALLER 4 SECTION BECAUSE MY HOME IS NOW INSULATED.

This new boiler will be replacing a old black and white boiler that burned a hours worth of fuel to make steam from a cold start. I want to achieve the biggest fuel savings for my buck please advise..

Thanks guys

Ryan

I think you're only supposed to count the radiators. The boiler SFR ratings are already net of the pickup factor. So you may be fine with the 271. Especially if the mains and takeoffs are insulated.
