Taco z v burns out transformer?
Honeywell AT150F-1022 circuit breaker transformer to prevent damage to another transformer.
Sounds like when the plunger moves down to make the microswitch between ZV terminal 2 & 3 which takes about a minute that you may have something out of phase.
Hook a multimeter across terminals 1 nad 2 on the zone valves and leave one wire from the transformer disconnected turn up all the thermostats and you should read around 24 to 30 volts, now keep your eye on the meter and touch the loose wire to what you think should be the connection, if the meter drops to "zero" quickly remove and switch the two transformer wires as the "zero" indicates out of phase.

The zone valve energizes for about 1 min and then the transformer burned out,, yet it reads r.8-.9 ohm res.... can it short out during the cycle... and burn out the tranformer... new 24v 40va h well Ken0 -
Something is fishy
You should be able to run 3 zone valves off of that transformer. It you have a wiring problem, maybe the transformer for the zone valve is bucking the control transformer. Try lifting the wire off of the #3 terminal of the zone valve and trying it again. Also maybe put a 3amp fuse in the 24 volt circuit so next time (if there is still a problem) you can just replace a fuse instead of a transformer.

Likely the power head is bad. When it opens..the ram pushes down and is supposed to push some little plastic tits to make the end switch. If the little plastic tits are broken off or worn significantly then it will make a direct short which will burn out your transformer immediately...actually after the warm up of 45 to 60 seconds...then the smoke gets out.

I don't think you have it wired correctly. For your refernce I attached a typical wiring diagram. It should not burn out a tranformer under normal operating conditions, unless there was a possibility the isolated transformer powering the valve interfaced with the boiler aquastat transformer. Hopefully, this helpsJoe Mattiello
