which VALVE ????

I have a old (early 50's) GE boiler with 285,000 BTU. I want or should I say I need to replace the gas valve assembly. It is one of those old type with the bi-metalic plates that after it heats up the valve opens and I don't find it safe. I have had it stick and dump raw gas into the basement - NOT GOOD! My question is: I want to replace it with a honeywell unit. What kind should I buy??? Also do the new gas valves have a reg in them? If you need more info - just ask

Thanks

In my book, never safe to mix parts...be it a pilot assy or a HSI control. May be time for a new boiler. You can ask honeywell if a valve is a direct replacement for yours, but if not I sure would not install a valve that just happens to work...too much liability.

  • You can replace that valve

with a Honeywell VR8300A-4508 with built in regulator so you can remove any regulator in line before existing gas valve. This valve is a 24 volt standing pilot 3/4" by 3/4" valve that will handle up to 300 cubic feet per hour so your 285,000 is just under that.It will work fine with a thermocouple which I assume you have for a pilot system.

If this has another style of pilot however then it may be a good time for a new boiler.

If you are not a professional then hire one to install the valve.

your other posting which stated your input is 235,000 BTU's you better make sure what it is so you get the correct gas valve. The valve I gave you will cover either input but the fact that you posted two different inputs cause me some concern. Make sure when you look at the boiler rating plate it is the INPUT NOT THE OUTPUT!!!
