Hi bill,
It's great to see you posting. That new system is a little high tech for your customer base isn't it? Are you finally getting the customers to see the value of upgrades.
The circulator upgrades alone will save on electricity. That boiler and Logomaticwillput a dent in the oil consumption.

Every picture tells a story, don't it?
Well almost......... This subpanel supplied power to the burner [1/4 hp motor] and at one time 9 B&G pumps. Each pump had it's own mini-breaker, and it's own switch. BUT.. all the pumps were wired through one strap-on low limit aquastat with #14 wire!
Better yet the panel also supplied the bedroom and two bathrooms and an office and the basement lights! Better still it was fed on a #12/2 wire from the panel in the garage 160' away. This was done originally in 1951-52 and was probably added to over the years.
Today I took an after picture. My friend George the electrician ran a new wire and new subpanel and seperated all the circuits. I "helped" him wire the boiler.0 -
boiler
This lady burned over 3,000 gallon of oil last year. 4,500 sq. ft. house minimal insulation bad windows and doors. It had a V38 burnham with a carlin 201 fired @2.75gph. The boiler weighed 1700# at the scrapyard.
I had to change it myself because both my co-workers were on vacation. The piece of pvc pipe is holding up the expansion tank and the one nylon tie-wrap holds it to the lally column.
Oh and the whole house is radiant ceiling with 3/8" copper in the plaster. There is some baseboard and a few convectors.0 -
the carpenter
the carpenter has replaced several doors and windows and has insulated the crawl spaces. This was totally my deal with the customer. The office said neither yea or nay concerning the logomatic. I will say it is the first one they installed since 1946! Service DH-5's in the morning and program a logomatic in the afternoon.
I think my electrician buddy may have persauded the customer to listen to me about the improvements.0 -
Well, at least
it wasn't a Federal Pacific panel!
Nice job.

What the heck w/ all the large pumpen's
5000sf house?, there's enough pumps there to probably pump 30,000 sft at least. Anybody look over the system for maybe smaller pumps? Just wondering.0 -
smaller pumps
I changed a few. This house probably has a mile or more of copper tubing. I think the 3/8" copper may cause some serious resistance to flow. I guess you would have to see it.0 -
Bill, 3/8 copper is no different that 3/8\" pex as far as flow
Maybe if you get a chance, talk to client and see if there are any plans for the original mechanical. A fair amount of the large old houses I work on had some plans for the mech back in the teens to 20s. If not you may be able to guestimate and then look at your pump curves and see. I would suspect it's over pumped by at least double or more. just a thought. Tim Ps, I have done the same thing, "well it's always worked so why change it". So I am not faulting you, I just think I have woke up a bit. Good luck0 -
Not a F-P panel, but..
An older Wadsworth panel...what was it Bill?0
